  • S. Robert Datta, M.D., Ph.D.

    The Datta Lab is investigating the role of the Ms4a gene family in Alzheimer’s Disease, seeking to understand how mutations cause changes in T cell function.

  • Steve J. Haggarty, Ph.D.

    The long-term goal of the Haggarty laboratory is to advance the discovery of novel targets and therapeutic agents. As a Ludwig Investigator, Dr. Haggarty seeks to develop novel compounds to target and degrade tau protein in vivo.

Cycle Two Ludwig Investigators

  • Harvey Cantor M.D.

    The Cantor lab investigates the connection between aging and our bodies’ neuroimmune response. Dr. Cantor and his team are seeking to mechanistically define the interaction between microglia and the development of toxic plaques in Alzheimer’s Disease in an effort to identify novel therapeutic targets.

  • Sichen (Susan) Shao Ph.D.

    Dr. Shao studies the molecular mechanisms of protein homeostasis in neurodegeneration. Dr. Shao and her lab are investigating the link between defects in mRNA and protein quality control in neurodegeneration to advance our understanding of neuronal responses that lead to the manifestation of neurodegenerative disease.

  • Steve McCarroll Ph.D.

    The McCarroll lab is using advanced DNA analysis to investigate molecular markers of degenerating neurons in an effort to identify clinical biomarkers of Huntinton’s Disease. Dr. McCarroll and his lab have identified a sequence in the huntingtin gene that is neuron-specific and appears to predicate neurodegeneration.

Cycle One Ludwig Investigators

  • Michael Greenberg Ph.D.

    The Greenberg lab is studying neuronal mechanisms of DNA repair in the context of neurodegeneration. Dr. Greenberg and his team have discovered a protein complex that may be a useful therapeutic target for counteracting DNA damage.

  • Stirling Churchman Ph.D.

    The Churchman lab studies aging in neurons, specifically mitochondria and how they lose efficiency overtime. Dr. Churchman’s and her team are working to understand how to increase the lifespan of mitochondria, and ultimately neurons.
